chekmate1984 Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Hi all we have loads of GPO's that install softwares i think around 15 or so and quite few are duplicates. I have created new image with all or most softwares installed now. But noticed as it applies GPO its trying to install those softwares Can i disable those software install GPO's or would that have issues on the ones with older images? I dont want, if i disable those softwares GPO to stop working or them to try uninstall
mavhc Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 I would really advise not having them preinstalled, makes it way easier to update the base OS for starters. If you disable them it won't uninstall unless "Unintsall when out of scope" is enabled, in Properties>Deployment for that piece of software.
chekmate1984 Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 The reason why we restorting to thick image is because at present eveytime machine is restarted it installs all softwares again and takes 5mins plus to get to log on screen as its stuck on installing softwares.
jezi55 Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 its very strange that it is trying to install the software everytime the machine reboots, surely if its already installed it should skip it. How are you deploying the software via gpo? Are you using any scripts etc that run every time? We only have office 365 and adobe CS3 pre-installed on our base image, any other rooms have software deployed via gpo and yes you do notice it when the machine first reboots in the correct OU group but apart from that it shouldn't make a difference.
mavhc Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 It's broken then, most likely it's failed to install, then tries again next boot, check the event logs to see why
