jonnykewell1 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Good morning all, Is anybody else experiencing a problem where users in Microsoft Teams have suddenly lost access to the Class Notebook tab in their class Teams? It looks like the One Note is still available and if I copy and paste the url from a working user and then try and access that url as the broken user, it opens up asolutetly fine. Nothing appears to have changed in terms of Teams permissions and at first Microsoft said lots of school had started to report it. Now i'm getting emails asking me to run packet captures at my end which either makes me think it's not a wider issue as first discussed or are they just using me to help them troubleshoot a bigger problem.. Cheers, Jonny
Garacesh Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) We're getting the same here. Three students today that I've personally seen. I initially thought it was MacOS related but now we've had a Windows device too. I've installed Teams on a new device and I see Class Notebook in the bar at the top, but things look different from what the kids have. For instance, if I click on Teams on the left-hand side I don't get the big grid of icons, just a list in the left-hand a sub-menu Though, I'm also on W11 and it's a fresh install, so I'm wondering if it's just a bodged update? Did anything come to light with your environment since Friday? Edit: Interestingly, I just has a 'Teams has encountered an error' type banner that prompted a reboot of Teams, I forget its exact wording. When Teams re-loaded, all it had was Posts for five or six seconds, before finally Files, Home page, Class Notebook etc appeared. Might be related. Edit2: Is there 2 versions of Teams (not including work vs school)? The first installer I downloaded was Teams_windows_x64.exe at 139,081KB ('Version 1') which produced the behaviour described above. Then I found a different one from MS, TeamsSetup_c_w.exe at 1,411KB ('Version 2) which produced the UI as I expected it to. Now it seems it doesn't matter which version I install (even if I delete %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\TeamsPresenceAddin and %TEMP% to give myself the best 'clean slate'), I get the first UI I came across that doesn't look like what the kids see/what I recognise. But for a moment, using V2, I did get the typical teams UI I recognise, but now both of them seem to give me the same UI, which I had with V1 when I first installed that exe. Bizarrely, when I had the UI I recognise (the one with the grid view for all teams), the Class Notebook option was on the left-land list. On the one with the 'new'(?) UI, it's up top, which is where kids seem to think it should be. So I got no clue what's going on. Edit3: Grabbed from a laptop, this looks like the 'right' version, except the list is to the left, whereas the pupils I've spoken to expect it to be at the top Edit4: Ah, I think I've sussed the discrepancy between UI's. 1.6.00.13566 vs 1.6.00.12455. Bizarrely, both V1 and V2 exe's seem to install 1.6.00.12455 now, after one of them (presumably?) installed 1.6.00.13566 because I've seen that UI on the device I'm testing with. No closer to fixing the issue, though, as both versions display Class Notebook somewhere Edited June 14, 2023 by Garacesh
jonnykewell1 Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Hi, Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. We've actually had the same problem when using the in browser version of Team's so I don't think it's related to the version that they are using on the machine. Typically I was assigned an agent in Washington DC so replies to my ticket have been at out of hours times. They've now transferred me to someone who starts work at 12noon which helps a little! They've asked me to capture a HAR file and send it back to them, they didn't actually say what to capture so I literally just went to portal.office.com, opened up Teams and then clicked onto the class. I've sent this back by a secure portal and it's currently being examined. Interestingly when I first logged the ticket, they said that numerous other schools had reported the same issue. Cheers, Jonny
Garacesh Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 I don't suppose you heard back about this at all, did you? We have an open ticket on our helpdesk about kids with this issue (kids who haven't brought their laptops down to us so we can look at the issue further, would you believe? ) and we're pestering the teacher to send them down but nothing is coming of it.
jonnykewell1 Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 I'm currently going back and forth with Microsoft. After initially examining the HAR file I submitted they've now asked me to submit some Microsoft Teams logs and these have been passed onto their engineering team. For some reason it's an "extremely busy" period for them at the minute in the US so not sure what the reason for that might be but I only get a reply back in the afternoon.
jonnykewell1 Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 We've had it confirmed from teachers that the Class Notebooks returned yesterday afternoon. Woo!
