AB Tutor Control (or similar) Staff Access Restriction

We have 15 ICT suites with AB Tutor installed and, up until recently, each of the 15 admin computers had access to all the classrooms. However, one particular member of ICT teaching staff is known to spend a lot of time watching the monitored classrooms (spread across various subjects: ICT, English, Science, Maths, etc) and will block, logoff, etc students he "decides" have broken rules.

This has, understandably, annoyed the other staff (especially those from other departments), so I have now restricted each room to only control its own room ( a pain in the ass as it now means I have to maintain 15 policy files).

Has any other school had to deal with this problem?

I just do like you do and keep a current poilcy export on a share ready for rebuilds or updating etc.

We've got a little vb script that only allows a particular .dat file for each particular suite - seems to work as we had a "fiddler" too.

yes i use the logon script to copy the correct dat file to the computer, but it still means having to edit 15 files every time I need to update policies... still it does stop the "fiddler" who is now very unhappy about this restriction, which makes me happy

Their actions are a breach of good teaching practice, where a teacher interferes with the teaching of another's class without the authority to do so. This needs to be taken up with their line manager and the SLT.

 

This is not a suitable attitude for this teacher to have, and in the same way that a teacher would not walk into another's class and start shouting at students they believe to be 'naughty' without even acknowledging the presence of the other teacher, they should not be doing this via any remote control system. The technology is not the problem, it is the culture of allowing the teacher (or any staff member) to get away with this.
