ITGURU Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 I have a mixture of orange and aqua om3 fibre patch leads from a core switch and trying to determine what if anything is the difference. Online everything I find says that orange is OM2 but the actual cables say 50/125 OM3 Is there actually any difference between orange and aqua om3 cables or is it just preference or having orange in the early days then they changed to aqua
Steve21 Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 I'd say it's just left-overs, as originally it was yellow is single, while orange is multimode (whether OM1 or OM2) It's like the whole aqua OM3/OM4 thing, while some do Violet for OM4 (an EU thing not American), depending if they're running certain standards My general assumption is never trust colours Steve 1

powdarrmonkey Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 The colours aren't reliable nor important. The only thing which matters is the spec written on the cable.
Passat1983ICTech Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 if you can look a the fiber cable in a cab or in the roof there is writing on the this get the number of the cable it will tell you if it om1 to om3 or 4 if you get what I mean
