Auto login GPO

Trying to get auto login to work via GPO on exam laptops.

 

Everything I've tried isn't working.

Anyone got an example of a working GPO?

Do not use group policy to do this. This credentials are stored in clear text and all domain users can read them. Also the password is readable in the registry.

 

This utility can encrypt the password. This is much safer, assuming you lockdown who has local admin rights.

We just use the classroom management software to do this (Impero in our case).

we create an exam user with no password. The exam officer types it in before the exam. The account is disabled when not in use.

How would I go about setting this up via GPO?

I would imagine it would be a startup script with something like:

 

\\dcfilesrv\ExamSoftware\autologon.exe /accepteula exam ContosoHighSchoolDomain exampassword - once that has run once it should stick in the registry for the next reboot
