Printing Issues

Hi Everyone,

We recently migrated one of our schools to a new AD domain and at the same time updated all of the machines to Windows 11.

 

Everything was fine until we discovered that when using any Microsoft Office application and you want to print in colour the application will hang and then crash.

 

 

• All of our printers are from Kyocera.
  
• The print server is running on Server 2016 1607
  
• I have tried updating drivers and I have updated the print server to the latest windows update.
  
• Restarting Print Spooler & clearing %windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS
  

It only does this on domain joined devices, I have tested this on our Intune laptops and printers seem to work as normal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try using v4 drivers

Thanks for replying, I just tried installing the V4 drivers, I was hopeful at first as it did work but after I restarted the computer and tried again I had the same issue.

 

It weird if I print in mono or black and white it works perfect, only when printing in colour it has the issues.

If you go into the Sharing option on the print server (select printer, Properties), what do you have for the checkbox "Render print jobs on the client computer" (it's normally enabled)? Try disabling it and make sure under the Advanced tab that "Enable advanced printing features" is enabled. If it's actually configured as I've suggested, then reverse it! i.e. enable rendering on the client and disable the advanced printing features.

Does printing to a PDF printer have the same problems?

Thanks all for your help, Unchecking "Render print jobs on client computers" and checking "Enable advanced printing features" seems to have fixed it.

just keep an eye on your server perf as it will be working harder to render all those print jobs
