contink Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I'm not sure if anyone else is finding this but the lack of ability to drill down search terms using comment search terms like AND, NOT, etc... is making it next to impossible to locate previous posts. Can the search functionality please be expanded to allow more honed searching instead of the simplistic approach that's basically all that you can use at the moment. .. and yes I'm using the "advanced search" which frankly ain't. Purty please...

srochford Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Agreed. I think google crawls the site more than once a day - it certainly picks up new entries very quickly. I've no idea how easy or hard it would be to change the way the search works on the forums but I suspect it's not easy and it will anyway be different from Google. I think there's more value in learning how to use Google well (because you can then search many sites using it) than getting a better search for just this site. Don't know if it would be worth adding a Google search box to the site?

contink Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks for the tips re: google.. ...as to vBulletin I'm pretty sure it can/does work better than it's currently working. PhpBB2 does 10 times better and vBulletin is not about to leave it at that.. keywords like AND, etc... are standard search parlance so I'm pretty sure it's a setting in the admin side of things.
ZeroHour Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Boolean search is turned on. Terms like AND etc should work fine. I also increase the minimum word length for the index to 3 letters so now searchs with 3 letter words should work.
