IA76 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Hi Is there any software available for a reasonable cost that can be used to monitor all incoming & outgoing emails from an exchange server on sbs 2003. Apprt from telling users that email is monitored are there any other laws regarding email monitoring? Thanks

IA76 Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks How did I miss this post below mine http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/169-exchange-email-monitoring.html It has all the info I need!
srochford Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Exchange logs the basics about all emails as text files to a share called \\server\server.log You can then parse these using logparser (free MS Download) and you can also dump that into (say) SQL server for use later. You've found all the other stuff which has been written. As I understand it, you can do what you want in terms of basic stats monitoring (how many messages in/out per day; what size, how many Mb per hour etc) but if you start personalising it then you need to take more care. You also can't just say "we are going to read all your email" but you can say things like "we log all access to email and may access it if requested to do so by appropriate authority"
