Cross Site Backup

Hi,

 

Not sure if this is the right category to post under, but since it's transfer speed related I'd thought I'd put it here.

 

Basically, we are contemplating replacing our Redstore remote backup solution with something that makes use of the fact we have multiple sites.

 

We have been experimenting with File Server to NAS and NAS to NAS across our ISP's MPLS connection. But we are finding that backups are taking a LOT longer than when going to Redstore.

 

Now both Redstore and our SMB based approaches both use the same internet connections to do the job so I can only conclude that SMB is rubbish and that Redstore use clever compression and streaming technologies to achieve higher transfer speeds.

 

So with that said. Can anyone recommend any solution that can backup to NAS at speed?

 

I'm guessing the NAS will need to support whatever transfer method is required so the application probably needs to run on the NAS (we have currently been using Synology DSM).

 

Anyone managed to do this successfully?
