cheekycharly Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Hi all, we currently have an O365 admin portal which is rarely touched and was setup by county for us and has a domain name that we don't use. Rather than me add in the new domain and try default everything to the new domain name including Sharepoint which is tricky I wondered if I could set this new domain up for the school as a separate account that will become the master over the next twelve months. So first off how to I sign up for O365 as a school and get the default Student A1 licensing implemented if possible. Thanks in advance as always.
Roberto Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Should be fine. Do you have any vendors you frequently work with that are Microsoft partners? For example, Stone computers comes to mind but I’m sure there will be many others. Speak to them and they’ll be able to help.
HPlum78 Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I am not sure that I would stand up a new tenant and migrate unless I really had to... if your using SP online then MS have functionality for this that makes changing the primary Domain name simple (also takes care of OneDrive). There is a ton of things to consider when migrating between tenants. In saying that is not impossible and as it is late I will not unpick the pros and cons of this, also you do not say if its SP online, if you are using EXO if your current Domain is Federated or not... the list goes on and all these factors and more need to be considered.

Does anyone know where I setup a school based 365 or is it just a normal 365 and your license supplier gives you access to A1 for education and links it on? Cheers

HPlum78 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 So if you have added it to an existing tenancy you will have to wait for 3 maybe 5 days before you can add it to another tenancy from memory. Also I don't know that you will be able to use SP and OneDrive but that may have been fixed now.... Will have a look see.

HPlum78 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 From a quick look as long as you have not tried to make it primary in any way in your original tenancy you should not have an issue standing SP/ OneDrive in a new tenant. But the deletion wait time is still a thing mind.

Cheers, I think I will just bin it off later today / tomorrow morning and use the above link to setup a fresh new tenant under the new correct naming. All should look correct doing it that way rather than living off the old one.
cheekycharly Posted March 13, 2023 Author Posted March 13, 2023 In reply to one of the above questions there is no current MSP's on the old account that has a ridiculously long @ address. This is why im looking to change it as I am in talks with SoftCat to become our MSP and I would rather link them up to a tenant that isn't going to change from now. Will be moving up to A3 licenses on the account soon and Enterprise Mobility + Security and using this new shorter domain name as an Azure AD Login for pupils to log on with. 1

Went to the sign up page which seemed to recognize that the domain was not linked anymore and allowed me to put in an email address at the new domain name and send a verification code to my mobile but then I get the following message... When you click Go Back your back at the start of the signup process. Any thoughts or ideas guys?

Enroll your school now button takes you back to the first page. Anyone know who I can reach out to as all routes seem to lead to nowhere when trying to get this setup.
