Set Team Channel members to read-only?

Our Exams department want to create a Microsoft Team for sharing exam information with pupils. The intention is to have separate, private, Channels for each year group, where exam notices can be posted, along with related files. This all seems pretty straightforward. I can set the General channel as read-only for Members, but I can't find any way to set Members as read-only for other Channels?

 

I've a feeling that this may be a restriction on Educational Teams. Can anybody confirm, or tell me how to do this?

If you select to view the Team in the SharePoint view, you can change the permissions on the folders in other channels.

 

You can turn on moderation for channels to limit it to who can create posts, reply etc as long as your the owner.

In Teams, right click on the channel and select "Manage Channel"

 

You can then see the option to turn Moderation on or off from the drop down if you are an Owner.

 

With the recent updates, the moderation setting should also allow you to restrict members from replying as well.

Ah! This option isn't available on a Private Channel. However, this option is more important than restricting access, so I'll delete the Private channels and add them as regular Channels. Like you suggest, I can then restrict access to file shares via Sharepoint.
