RobFuller Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 My old school had Three Allen and Heath SQ Desks. Main hall - SQ 7 Recording studio - SQ 7 "portable" - SQ5 in a flightcase with the cutouts. Equip them with Dante cards and you can do some SUPER neat stuff. The Main hall could go back to the recording studio and you can live record from the main hall as though it's an extension of the studio We already started using Dante as our hall doesn't have any cabling for audio so networked from day one. Not found it difficult as from a more networking background I've personally found it easier. Looking to replace our speaker setup and this is on the requirements list. Like you say the flexibility it perfect for multi use venues. Dante cards seem to be in constraint still but also found alot of second hand kit with it so lots of options. Stage box for our rack will be a requirement but again the extra cost is justified compared to routine the analogue cabling and resulting in a less flexible system.
SamanthaD Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 And if using Dante be aware that you do lose functionality as it's an audio only protocol, most notably head amp control. Some manufacturers such as Yamaha add HA control into the Dante protocol for their own products, but if you're using pure Dante across manufacturers be aware (we have this issue with using BSS BIB's on a Soundweb system being controlled by a SI Expression desk. All we have is trim control on the mics with a 3db step. Pretty useless) 1
