[isams] Power Bi with Isams Hosted Online

Has anyone successfully linked up Isams hosted online via the API or any other means to Powerbi. If you have do you have any pointers or follow any guides? We cant currently get our head around it at the minute and arent sure if its even possible. Any advice is much appreciated.

I did at my last place. I think I used the site connector program they had to connect to the iSAMS database, as if it was onsite. That way the IP whitelist still worked, as the connection came from our site, but the online BI could access it.

You have asked for access to the DB all ready? It isn't there by default. If you had it in the past, check the details as iSAMS completely changed the details a bit ago.

First thing to check is can you use SQL Server Manager to connect and go from there.

That's great thanks. Do you think it is possible from the API or it needs a direct connect to the database like you suggest?

It should be possible with the API but I think you’ll have to do a lot of collating data depending on what outputs you want.

 

IRIS are working on their own analytics product which I’ve seen a demo of which does this for you and is pretty cool. It lets you combine multiple schools in a MAT scenario.

If you can get SQL access and use the views to feed PBI that would certainly make things easier. I think the Central product uses the Batch API which is essentially ripping out huge chunks of data and I guess they reform it outside.

This is something I have been working on. Although the amount of data is limited compared to what can be pulled via SQL Manager, it does mean you can do stuff without needing to have a static IP address.

 

There was a data analyst at a school in Dubai that had a really useful website, but she changed industry and let the site go.
