ONT Install Query

What is the standard wait time for a home FTTP service to go live following the install of the ONT by Openreach?

 

Having not dealt with this for residential yet, I thought the service would be live at the point of Openreach confirming comms and reporting this info back, during the onsite time.

 

I ask because the IPS has said anywhere up to 2 hours.

Ours was live instantly, FTTP with Brsk (local ISP, not Openreach).

Thought that would be the case. This is through Zen.

I’m keen to find out if others have experienced this and it’s normal practice. Support at Zen said up to 2 hours, possibly more.

When my OR ONT was installed they (OR) came to take a look after ordering the next day and decided to just install it then and there but because they were only on a survey job they were not allowed to activate it until 14 days (I think) after my order was placed so it say there flashing saying no service until the OR called me on the morning to ask if it had changed.

OR provisioning from the guy turning it on to live took less than 10 minutes but I live in Shetland so you generally deal with the same OR guys during the whole period.

Honestly I think there’s something fishy going on with my IPS. The service was activated weeks ago, the ONT is solid green for the three lights. The Openreach installer was also of the opinion this should be live from the get-go.

Yeah I was delayed simply because they didnt expect there to a duct and putting it in on the survey day I suspect. It certainly sounds like your ONT is active as far as OR are concerned based on the lights.

 

I presume you have setup PPPoE and everything in the router? Does the far right light flash when its trying to get a PPPoE connection?

 

I have heard of Zen having activation issues in the past and wrong speed grading but who knows how common it is.

 

I went with IDNet for FTTP as it had 30 day contracts and plan on changing very soon but a lot of the other OR isp's didnt show availability of FTTP and I actually thought it would be a dig a trench job to run FTTP to my house.

Eventually sorted after speaking to a tech in the know. Small config change required in the router settings…. Somewhat frustrated by this, had this info been released in an instruction set I would have been able to make the change during the install of the ONT.

Also, the first two techs I spoke to at Zen were frankly dreadful. The third guy was excellent.
