ivantalboys Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 We are currently having issue with a Win2016 Printer server. Several times a day, client computers will lose connection to the spooler and users will be unable to print. The Print Management tool on my workstation will report the server is 'down' and will trigger a notification if one is set. However, when on the server itself we are still able to send print jobs to the network prints. restarting the server print spooler service will fix the issue but any jobs sent from clients while it was 'down' are lost. We run Papercut (version 16) on the server and have tried restarting those services but that doesn't fix the problem. Nothing appears in the server print service logs to indicate that there is an issue, Im not sure that it should as the server itself has no problems printing. Looking for ideas where to look next. Thanks Ivan
Michael Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Papercut v16 is very old, with the latest being v22 - it might be a security risk, but shouldn't influence this issue. Upgrading drivers to either PCL6 and/or PS depending on requirements. I presume you have the latest security updates applied on both server and clients? Ideally they should match or be very similar. Using FQDN print shares can improve reliability - I use GPP to deploy printers. I'd say most likely it's drivers which are creating problems with the spooler service.
