Using a Fire TV, Chromecase or Roku in school

Hi,

 

The school wants to have a news channel or something playing in the dining room for the students. We have a TV but it is not smart, so was wondering are there any licensing or any other implications to the school purchasing a Fire TV stick, Roku or Chromecast?

 

Anybody done this?

It was a while ago I looked into this, most of the consumer devices had issues with 802.11x auth. Raspberry pi worked well but these are hard to get hold of now.

One option is setting up a dedicated hidden SSID for these devices.

As for licensing I think you just need TV and ERA licenses for live news.

We have a separate WIFI that we use for visitors, Ofsted etc. I am sure we have the TV and ERA licenses but will check. Thanks
