Streaming a World Cup match

So, we've got an careers fair in the same evening as one of the England matches. We've changed the timings of the event to accommodate the football but I'm also being asked if we can screen the game in our Theatre to further remove conflicts of interest and encourage attendance at the event. We have a TV licence, we're not charging entry, the game will be on BBC so free-to-air, only our own students and their parents will be in attendance (plus exhibitors if they wish to stay). Is there anything else we need to do/think about? Are we mad to even consider this?!

Only the risk that iPlayer falls over, but I think you'll be fine as the BBC are used to it now

 

When we did this years ago we shoved a TV card in a desktop & streamed it out via VLC as we didn't trust iPlayer back then (This was 2010 I think & a mid day game) so you've always got that option as well.

iPlayer is delayed as well, had a lot of odd moments where people were getting the penalty results on their phones a bit early, especially bad if you've had to restart the stream and its doing some caching smoothing

I'd go for a live TV signal if possible

I wouldn't worry about delay too much. Any gambling site will have the result before it is shown on live TV.

Honestly, I can live with that, and I don't particularly want to go to the expense or effort of setting up a TV card just so the students can't spoil their own fun by co-watching it on their phones.

You should be able to stream it on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/fifa/streams

 

We thought about the iplayer and ITV hub and then stream it via Google Live stream but then there is the risk of streams being out of sync.

This year i'm looking at setting up TVHeadEnd or MuMuDVB to set up the stream

We use a cheap DVB-T USB we grabbed off e-bay. We have the August T210v2. Last time we set it up I seem to remember having an issue in linux that was fixed by copying a firmware over ... but it was a while ago now things have likely changed.
