Couple of questions about MACs and Logic

Hi All,

I am looking to put in some IMacs for our Music suite and was hoping someone could answer a couple of questions I have about them.

1: Does anyone have multiple MACs in a suite with wireless keyboards and mice? Do they conflict and cause issues or do they work ok.

2: Is it ok for students to save Logic files to OneDrive as opposed to storing on the Device? If not, how do you do it?

3. Do you manage them through InTune?

Hope someone is able to answer these, it will be really helpful.

Many thanks

Disclosure this was in old job but only left few months back.

No conflicts

2: Is it ok for students to save Logic files to OneDrive as opposed to storing on the Device? If not, how do you do it?

No, do not save Logic files to OneDrive. Microsofts file system breaks the files. We setup a synology box as a NAS and they save to that. (As linux based it saves them fine)

3. Do you manage them through InTune?

No Intune is lacking in macOS config, use Mosyle of Jamf is best bet

1) We are 100% Mac in all our Labs not just music, I would stay wired keyboard and mice, wireless is asking for trouble they will go missing or lose charge at a bad time. Companies like KRCS will give you wired and money back for the wireless ones.

2) We do have Logic in our Music lab, they just save to their network home folder which we auto redirect Documents, Desktop, Downloads etc at login.

3) We manage with JAMF.

Thank you for your quick response.

I think using wireless I would worry they would go missing more frequently, even tho we have a pretty good cohort of students here.

I had not thought of using a NAS setup, something for me to consider when costing the room. We still have on-site file server so could also use that as mentioned also.

Thanks all

1) We lease our iMacs with Academia and we’re able to send them back the wireless keyboards/mice and they give us wired ones in return. Non-fixed/wired peripherals go walkies too easily.

2) We have both OneDrive and a NAS for our iMacs. We get students to save locally and then make copies at the end of the lesson as direct save isn’t officially supported: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203954.

I’m hoping to look at Mac OneDrive Known Folder Move (KfM) soon so I’d be interested to see if that effectively makes a copy of locally data automatically without the students needing to, or if it’s still broken.

3) Using JAMF. Although it’s the most popular, it’s behind on features compared with some cheaper competitors.
