We are currently having Hoge100 setup. The Hoge server is on site. It won't send emails. It comes up with "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1". We have on-site exchange (working on that!). We know the credentials for the mailbox Hoge is trying to use are correct.

I've done a lot of Googling, but the results are honestly just confusing me. There are various results about changing things in IIS, but I'm unclear as to whether this is on the Hoge server or the Exchange server.

Can someone help me in relatively simple terms?

Thank you

I mean honestly it could be related to a lot of things, but just to clarify are you using a separate SMTP relay? or straight to the Exchange box?

Have you restricted the relay (or receive connectors or whatever Exchange calls it nowadays, not used on-site for a while) to certain IP addresses and not added the new server into it? (or actually change anything on it if it's set to not allow external services?)

We use FSRM which sends a load of emails out. The IP addresses of the file servers which do that have been added to the Exchange server. I simply added the Hoge servers IP address to it too.

Use ECP to create a new email user for the HODGE server.

Tell Hodge to use these new details to authenticate when sending email. Also enable tls on Hodge.

We had a similar issue before. It turned out to be something to do with folder redirection. Disabling that for that user seemed to fix the issue. It was trying to write to the Documents folder if I remember correctly. Our error code was lightly different though so might not be the same. (5.7.2 rather than 5.7.1).

Does it just sit there for a while and then give the message out when you kill the process off or do you get the message straight away?

HOGE100 (not hodge ;)) is already using a mailbox, it's not trying to send anonymously. I'll check TLS on the server.

Just to clarify the eventual solution to this;

There was nothing wrong with my mail server despite their insistence there was, they hadn't specified the username and password in one of their files on their server........
