Don't know if anyone else has had this issue but everyone started reporting BBC saying they were outside the UK, not sure why as our external IP RIPE registration didn't change and that location is UK but all their services thought we were outside the UK and blocked them. Or saying you are outside the UK is their default message for a blacklist

Used their online contact form on iPlayer and they have whitelisted us

"Thanks for getting in touch with BBC iPlayer support.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you while we investigated this issue.

Your IP was whitelisted in our database on 13/09/2022, and as such you may find you are now able to access again. If not, it may be after 23/09/2022 when this database will update again. Sorry for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

If you are still having issues at the end of the week, please get back in touch with us using the link below.

Thanks again for getting in touch with BBC iPlayer support.

Kind Regards,"

Thought maybe they are trying to crack down on VPN exits and somehow thought we were one due to the number of users.

From what I understand is BBC studios sells programmes that are made using gov/tax payers money to other countries. Maybe that is what they are trying to deal with? It is all questionable but prob not one for here.

:mod: Definitely not for discussion here

Oh yeah didn't mean to suggest this is a way to get round anything, we are in the UK and have a TV licence and our ISP is UK one just thought others might face this issue and contacting the BBC isn't the black hole of communication I thought it would be,

It’s good to know that at least one company gets its customer service right!

yeah quite frankly I'm impressed they sorted it out, I'd have expected an automated e-mail and then maybe an e-mail from level 1 support completely misunderstanding the issue giving you a boilerplate response saying you need to be in the UK to watch programmes! I am on a Welsh government IP address but luckily they seem to have whitelisted that already

There was a thread on here a while ago but I can't find it now...

IIRC the issue there was that the school's ISP had given out I.P. addresses that had either previously been used or were registered on a database somewhere as being outside the U.K.

EDIT: Just read your OP again...

our external IP RIPE registration didn't change and that location is UK

So, maybe that wasn't the issue!

We've just started getting this too, so I reported it. How quickly did they respond to you?

Took about 9 days for response but was working a couple of days after reporting it.

Forgot to say you can check some details of who they think you are here https://www.bbc.co.uk/userinfo

Ours changed from not working

X-Country": "gb", "X-Ip_is_uk_combined": "no", "X-Ip_is_advertise_combined": "no"}

to working

{"X-Country": "gb", "X-Ip_is_uk_combined": "yes", "X-Ip_is_advertise_combined": "no"}

Ours is {"X-Country": "gb", "X-Ip_is_uk_combined": "no", "X-Ip_is_advertise_combined": "no"} at the moment, same as yours when it wasn't working.

BBC have replied, citing our entry on iphub.info as "hosting, proxy or bad IP". I have sent them another message assuring them we don't use a VPN for our daily browsing. We do have a VPN though, for staff to access our network from home - when staff are connected to that, would all their browsing be going through the school router?
