Guest Guest Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 We have just bought some software to do Digital Signage but it is absolutely useless and "is blocked by the firewall" apparently Im looking at a (possibly) temp measure of doing a web based one written in html/php. I was thinking of using Joomla but this seems overkill for the purpose so have started making my own. So far i have got a layout with a slideshow gallery pulling pics from a folder - this is the one in the edugeek joomla just pulled apart abit. Im now looking for some tickers. I need one to scroll horizontally across which will pull from an RSS feed. And i need a vertical one which pulls from a text file, or even better, multiple text files. It also struck me that my gallery will limit me to pictures only, so a media player would be better. Any suggestions on the above? I may yet go for a cut down Joomla install but want to give this a shot first.
kmount Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Didn't you try the package out prior to purchase? What is the package? Must be a means of making it do something useful.
Guest Guest Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 (edited) Didn't you try the package out prior to purchase? What is the package? Must be a means of making it do something useful. Unfortunately it wasnt me who bought it so i believed what the sales man told us when he came in to price the job. And no there is no way to make it do anything useful. Its by 3M which i thought "well its going to be alright isnt it...", how wrong i was. You set everything up using a extreamly unresponsive web gui. Layouts; well there are litterly 2 differant layouts! You want an RSS feed, well get your hand in your pocket as they aint free, even if you wanted one from the BBC News website. I could go on... But ultimately "its blocked by our firewall" even though it works on port 80. According to the bloke who came to demo it "your ISP has blocked the 3M website" but after the amount of lieing hes done already i just dont believe him. We are looking at a way to get our money back as it wasnt cheap and we believe we were mis-sold it. Edited June 30, 2008 by Guest
marknhopgood Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 J17Sparky, I've developed a php / flash based digital signage system. Let me know if you're interested in trying it. I've connected to rss etc. I've got a demo channel if you are interested: http://hopgood.eu/test1/core/menu-link.php It's customisable, just let me know what you want to show and I'd be really grateful if you'd let me know if you can view the channel behind your firewall regards Mark I can set you up with a copy and give you access if you'd like.
