Gmail - forwarding then deleting email

Is it possible to forward an email from one Gmail account to the other and then delete the original email using the Google Workspace admin GUI?

 

I have a routing rule setup in Apps > Gmail > Default routing, but cant find a way to delete the email once its been forwarded.

If you're wanting to forward all messages, then setting up an address map there will do it. In the rule that you create, you'll want to leave the option "Also route to original destination" unticked.

I have always done the routing through the Google Workspace > Gmail > Default routing page. Didn't even know about Google Workspace > Gmail > Routing >...... for doing this type of thing.

 

Which method should I use if I just want to forward emails from one Gmail account to another (finance@ to user@), without needing to delete the emails, as I have always used Default routing for that.

I would just use a recipient address map (finance@ mapping to user@), but enable to option to also route to the original destination. Each mailbox would then receive its own copy of any messages coming into the finance@ mailbox.

 

Alternatively, if you need to be more selective on which messages are affected (e.g. only those from a particular sender), you could create a content compliance rule to do that. Define the message matching conditions, and then further down will be an option to add additional recipients.
