We've come to do a Bromcom to Google Classroom sync and we are getting the following error:

Failed to archive Classroom : [ClassroomName]. Error Details : 400 - @CourseNotModifiable The course is not in a state that allows modification of its properties.

I'm not sure where the error is. Is it with Bromcom or is the issue with Google?

Its a Bromcom bug. We have a ticket about it and its with the dev team to fix. The workaround which I spent the weekend doing for our Secondaries, is to select each of your old classes in the Bromcom Classroom interface and click Sync Classroom - this makes it vanish from your list. You have to do this for everyone - in our case - 800 - 1500 per school. After that it works fine. I had a fun weekend. Two touch screen Chromebooks side by side doing two schools at the same time........

They put a fix in place last week as it was not correctly archiving classes - clearly its not worked and if you had archived classes outside of Bromcom - e.g. using GAM - this breaks Bromcom even more. Hopefully they will fix the archiving routine for next summer! Syncing one at a time is the only thing I've found that fixed it.

Urgh!

I've left it doing a sync and it's been going for nearly an hour. I see the new classes have been created but there are no teachers or students in the classes.

I'll wait until the sync has finished and see if the Sync Classroom button in bromcom works.

Hi

I've raised a ticket for this (CAS-236104-B0T0B6) however i've still not heard anything back. Things are getting tight now, staff and students are starting to ask where the classrooms are!

Bite the bullet and zap the old ones - then it will work. Glad I did over the weekend!
Ive started doing that but being cautious. Might get my techs to give me a hand tomorrow too!

Thanks!!

Update, thing is the classrooms aren't being removed, instead we are getting an error though i have manually mapped the class to the class enrolment code on google and it's add the teacher and the students.

So there are like 2 maybe 3 years of classes to go through and sync (remove) from our system. Some classes dont remove after a sync.

What is interesting is when i do a manual match it shows ots of lines/entries for that particular class.

If anyone is running the Bromcom to Google Classroom sync, could you please check to see if your Bromcom classes are now listed as groups in Google Workspace > Users > Groups.

Ours appears to have created Google groups for all our sync'd classrooms. This is the first time this has ever done this and it's not ideal.

If you turn on Groups sync and select classes it will do this. I generally only use this for year groups - not classes. I'd also watcht eh default group permissions as they do need changing - you can use GAM to bulk tweak permissions. Also - Google Classroom functions via a backend group it makes for each class - thats nothing to do with Bromcom - just how classroom works.

Hmmm, thanks. Think is we have been running Bromcom to Classroom for years and only now does it decide to create classroom groups in Groups.
