Home folders not mapping

Good morning,

 

Hopefully I'm just missing something really obvious with this one but when creating new users in Active Directory and setting the home folder it is not getting mapped to the account at logon.

 

Being new to my current environment I tried to setup the folders and shares for new users using the same method (DFS Management) that they have always used here but I'm not totally familiar with this idea so maybe I've done something wrong.

 

Hard to tell what it could be though as by comparison I can't see any difference between what I've done and the settings\setups before me.

 

I don't think it's a permissions issue as upon testing I can browse to the home holders as the correct users and the policy for redirection seems to work but the drive just doesn't appear.

 

There is a long and complicated logon script in play but from what I can tell it isn't doing anything regarding home folder mappings, just shared drive stuff I think.

 

All ideas welcome.

Normally my default would be it’s permissions, just because you can access it manually doesn’t always mean it’ll map fine as stupid as it sounds

 

What’s showing in event logs on the machine when it fails to map. Should give you some insight

I see quite a few different errors in the event log but I don't think any of them are to do with the home drive not being mapped:

 

There's an error regarding an unmarshaling policy

An error regarding Documents redirection and how a parent can't redirect into a child so I've probably done something wrong in the policy for that

And then some errors about bitsperf.dll and sysmain.dll

Do the machines have card readers in them? Windows will assign a drive letter to each media slot in the reader even if it's empty. If there is a confliction the drive won't map.

I had an issue once where logins were really slow and after disabling Sophos on the file server the loins went back to normal again. I know this is not the issue you are facing but maybe worth disabling Sophos temporarily to see if the drives map if the issue is still occurring.

Okay the issue is definitely permissions based but I just can't figure out what I'm missing in my setup compared to the previous IT Network Manager:

 

Previous setup = Year2021 folder with Year2021 security group that has Special Permissions on This Folder Only > Users then have special permissions on their individual folders that appear to be inherited from Year2021 folder (I don't understand this bit)

 

My setup = Year2022 folder with Year2022 security group that has same Special Permissions on This Folder Only > Then it all seems to fall apart because I can't get inherited permissions from Year2022 folder for individual users on their folders and even when set to full control the mapping still doesn't work

 

Maybe the script I'm using is doing something weird because when I manually create the user folder and assign full control to the user on their folder the mapping works but I can't see how this is any different because all the script does is create the folder and assign full control to the user on their folder.
