Portable Active Speaker Recommendations for Classroom

Hi folks,

 

We need a pair of portable active speakers for projector setups around the school. They need to have a bit more oomph than the average computer speakers.

 

Mackie MR624's look good, but any other recommendations?

How portable? Not quite the same type of device as the speakers you linked to, but we have a pair of these:

They link as a pair and connect via bluetooth, so if you're using a PC / laptop you should be able to connect to them for sound output. They are battery powered, but can also be powered from an external USB power bank or USB charger, making them handily portable. I have our ones mounted on mic stands to lift them up of the ground, which works quite nicely as a portable solution.

Probably doesn't need to be as portable as that i.e. mains power OK. A speaker with a handle would be OK. I will check the Mackie speaker dimensions and see if they go into a bag here.

I was going to say, if you're going to go along the lines of the Mackie you mentioned above, i have had mucho experience with KRK speakers. The RoKit speakers from KRK are really good.

 

Just depends how portable like you said, because you can pick up some good Systems that have 2 satellites as well as a sub for quite a decent price.

Its been a decent budget buy, used in both classrooms and the sports hall. Taken its fair share of basketball hits and still going strong.

Our PE department have some similar speakers so it's a thought, although I'm thinking that a pair of speakers would be the ideal, just something with more oomph than the average PC speakers.

We have quite a few bits of Mackie kit dotted around our school. But i've had many experiences with some of the smaller Mackie kit and some of the larger systems that they use and they are just a really good general all rounder stuff.

 

I've not had a bad experience yet with them so in my opinion i don't think it will be bad if you go with that style of kit, just really depends on your use case
