Pollock Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 If an Aspire Target for a YR7 Pupil is set at 9 come their GCSE's, how would one most fairly calculate their target year on year in order to achieve said 9. That is to say, if they're currently operating at a level 2 standard in YR7, how would I most fairly calculate targets for years 8, 9 and 10based on this information? I'm asking on the assumption that linear progression would not be the most accurate. Cheers

Cheers Probably not, but its what most schools do for their flight paths. I have always wondered about the justification for this, and as an ex-science teacher never thought it made much sense. A pupil target of a 7 at GCSE, well, they wouldn't get a 7 if they took the entire exam at the beginning of Year 10, but are they getting 7's on the work they are doing ? If so, surely they should be graded a 7 and that means for a lot of students, you would get a horizontal line that appears to show no progress but actually shows they are doing exactly what they should be. Just looking at this now on SISRA for our school and we have decided to go with horizontal lines - so if they are (in our case) Band 4 (which means they are likely to get a 7-9 GCSE). That is the baseline and all through KS3 the expected performance remains at 4, so a straight horizontal line on a flight path. When we do assessments, we are then looking at whether they are performing above at or below their band. Keeps it nice and simple.
