enjay Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 We're about to launch student 1:1, students will either be leasing a laptop from the school or using a personally-owned laptop. Our web filters are okay at blocking online games, but don't seem nearly as effective against downloaded ones (Minecraft being a particular culprit but that could just be about what the students are trying to play). How do you guys block downloaded games from running? I appreciate even if we sort the filtering, students could still play offline games, but those don't seem nearly as popular (although that might change if we get all the online ones blocked!). I don't particularly want to require all the laptops to be enrolled with InTune, as a) some of the students will be using genuinely personally-owned devices, and b) I think I'd be opening up a world of hurt with tracking student activity at home.
mavhc Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 a) block the sites the online games connect to or b) control the laptop or c) say it's not your problem I wonder if it's possible to control just 1 account on the laptop, and force them to use that account (logged into their school Microsoft Account perhaps), possibly by authenticating wifi or proxy
PaddyNewman Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Minecraft tends to need ports. is your firewall actually being a firewall or just ticking the box of 'we have a firewall' Deny anything for students other than HTTP and HTTPS, if they need more, be very specific.
