I have a few of these and was worried about what happens if the cable gets damaged... Well it is replaceable!

And it's a standard 10 gigabit 100watt cable.. I wonder if it is locked down any by the dock but at the very least you could buy another... Who want to try an unofficial cable... maybe a 2 meter one!

UPDATE: Testing cable replacement!

I put this 4.5M 100Watt USBC (NOT HP) cable in the G5 Dock... Success! (EDIT: it didn't physically let me close the hatch, so changes would need to be made, a shorter cable would be less stout)

Oh and when putting it back I swapped the cable ends, as one end gets more wear than the other it makes sense to swap them periodically. (to save to replacing it early)

Oh that's interesting we have the HP USB-C universal dock which doesn't have a user replaceable cable it's soldered to the PCB inside.

I would guess they are replaceable if I looked at soldering in a new cable.

Are these G5 docks still available? I haven't been able to get hold of the universal ones anymore so might have to look at the soldering route or buy these docks instead.

These docks are always out of stock on the HP website, they used to cost only £150 now with shortages they're going for double. These are the perfect docks imho. The captive powercord and semi permanent cable means tampering (by well meaning staff) is less of an issue.

Yeah I wish we had these rather than our ones, thankfully only had a few failures so far.

Did you manage to find a suitable replacement, that let you close the cable holder piece? A number of ours have started to fail! Whilst I’ve found an Anker branded replacement that works, it doesn’t quite fit…

Cheers,
