Hello, we want to move our shared curriculum resource folders (French, History, Geography etc) to OneDrive. I am thinking just to have a new site called 'Curriculum Resources' and folders in the Site Contents section. Seems simple enough but how do you stop staff renaming the top level folders, they can do whatever within the folders but we don't want 'French' to be renamed for example.

Maybe there's a better solution using Teams where there's a 'French Teachers' Team, and only they have write access to their connected site folders, all other staff have read. would that prevent the folder rename issues.

mmm, what to do.

Create a sub site for each subject, the subject teachers can have write permissions, you can create separate libraries for staff only and student facing. It's worked here for years. That's not to say the Teams solution won't work, of course.

ah OK, users can't rename the site, hence the cant rename the folder?

How do you present all your sub sites to the students in a single interface, like an old school folder (curriculum) with subfolders (the subjects). Maybe that is not the way?

I'm also in the move up to sharepoint, sites mostly built. Permissions are something to really think about prior to roll out though! :frusty:

We currently have a main hub site, which is just a navigational page. Has 3 random images which link to different sub sites (Staff, Admin & SLT)

Within each of those areas are more images, each which link to a document library. I.e in the Admin area, we have Finance, IT, HR.

The hub areas are all read only, then the document libaries are restricted to specific people.

For most areas I'm just allowing write access from the top level of the document library but in a couple of the staff ones, I've restricted this to a few folders deep to keep it tidy.

I quite like it so far, easy to navigate and purely for file storage. Can then sync the libraries to one drive for easier access.

The setup part was relatively straight forward, it's the roll out part I'm dreading!

I use links in the Top Link bar - I have a link back to the home page which I've renamed "Faculties", then each subject has a link below this in a drop down menu. Likewise, I have a link to a staff only page, which I've renamed "Staff Resources" and all staff only links are in a drop down there.

I should note - the home page has links to useful sites using the "promoted links" widget, two separate lists, one visible to all, one just to staff. There are also some "useful information" libraries, again with access set as required, and a staff only room booking calendar, so staff can book resources such as meeting rooms.

If you're near Rotherham, you're welcome to pop in and pick my brain,

Hey Danwinchelsea so you have

Curriculum (Hub site)

Staff (Site connected to hub)

Geography (Document Library - Read Only)

Volcanoes (Folder - Write)

Rivers (Folder - Write)

Towns (Folder - Write)

I still don't really see how you reproduce the NTFS permission of 'Deny/Delete/This folder only' to stop renaming top level folders, unless you set individual permissions on all the folder e.g. Volcanoes, Rivers, Towns etc.

Could you please send a few screenshots? be really helpful..
