Microsoft Surface Laptop SE question

Just looking at laptops for a laptop trolley and the Surface Laptop SE has caught my eye - saw it at BETT and liked how most of the laptop parts are user changeble.

 

Does anyone know if it will run the Full version of Windows 11 rather Windows 11 SE?

 

Alternatively - Looking for suitable laptops around the £250 - £300 mark.

 

It is only going to be used for basic office and internet usage - so doesnt have to be anything fancy.

Only 11SE is available, there's a very very very short list of apps, mostly american education stuff. Don't expect to install anything that's not currently on the list on it.

 

It's like Microsoft decided the best thing about the Chromebook was hardly any apps, and thought they'd make a better version by allowing even fewer apps.

 

Of course Chromebook can now run Android and Linux apps, so more than any other computer.

I'm not so much bothered about the processor as they will only be having Windows and Office 365 apps installed, so wont be intended for anything other than very basic usage.

 

Currently have some Dell Latitude 3190 (thanks to the DFE) in a trolley and they work a treat, only downside is the 64Gb storage, but just enough for Windows and Office.

Microsoft have also been working with the likes of NetSupport and SENSO and other safeguarding / classroom management and web filtering so if not already, will be available to deploy soon

The acer b3 line are surprisingly good and we’ve got ours running Windows 10 Education. I haven’t touched one of those Surfaces yet.

Any Idea if Microsoft have worked with other key educational software suppliers. The one that springs to mind is the PaperCut client for print management. If we can run that on Win11 SE I’m all in.

All the available apps are listed on that link, it's up to PaperCut to go to Microsoft and ask to be added, I assume by proving they only use a tiny amount of ram, storage, and cpu.

 

Also you can't join a domain with 11SE, so it's AAD and Intune required, extra cost on top.

The Surface SE laptops don't work great as a shared device, but are excellent as a personal 1-1 student device.
