Net2 Compatible Printers

Looking to replace out existing USB ID Card Printer (Zebra ZX Series 3) which has done well and is 5 years old.

 

Ideally, I am looking for a network ID Card Printer which will also populate the card number into Net2 when printed.

 

Do such printers exist?

 

At the moment, we have the print the cards and then manually assign the cards - so ideally would like to slimeline if possible.

I know the Primacy has a card reader built in, not sure about net2 compatibility though

It depends on the software you're using.

 

We use Primacy's with CardExchange which can in theory populate any database.

 

We bought ours with NRS Cashless Catering, and their SmartID package which updates to Paxton/Net2 so indirectly it does what you want. We've not tried to update directly to Paxton, but you'd need read/write API access granting - the publicly available API access is read-only.

Actually just noticed you mentioned networked - you can't use the printer networked if you're using the USB card reader within it as the cryptography is done on the local machine by USB.

Ahhh…. So if I went for a USB printer with built in read that should do the job.

 

Well prefer to do it that way than to keep manually sorting cards :-)

Yeah, that will certainly work technically.

 

You still need a way of updating the database.

 

If you can't update the live Net2 database you could possibly update a csv or MySQL database then have a script email you any new changes.

 

"Joe Bloggs has a new card, no ABC123DE56 - please update Net2"

 

(Actually I think it needs to be reversed bytes - 56DE23C1AB - to load into Net2 manually, from memory?)

I was hoping to print directly from Net2 and it do all the work.

Ah, i've never even looked at printing from Net2.

I bought a Smart IDP 15 a couple of years back, and used a few with other Paxton Sites. Overall very pleased with them.

It works straight with Net2 without any messing about.

I've found if you can get it on a printer server then it is all fine. Had an Evolis Primacy working fine on the network with Net2 and currently got a Magic Card 300 (don't get this one) doing OK.

But if you want the card scanned into Net2 as well, certainly sounds like Network enabled won't work.
