DSAGEY Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Hi, We recently got new computers that are on Windows 11. I have noticed Social Media apps are pre-installed but I do not wish to uninstall all pre-installed apps as staff and pupils use things such as Snipping tool. I have exported a Start Menu with the apps I want to be pinned, and saved as a .json and .xml but neither seem to work when I deploy it through GPO. Is there another way where I can get my custom start menu across all devices? Thanks
BOOT Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I followed this guide: https://oofhours.com/2021/10/27/customize-the-windows-11-start-menu/ I have a very clean and organised menu now 3

clareq Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Looking at that web page you can use the registry to get the same effect as the MDM policy.
tmoon-mint Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 I followed this guide: https://oofhours.com/2021/10/27/customize-the-windows-11-start-menu/ I have a very clean and organised menu now Just used this method and it works perfectly. Thanks.
swells92 Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) Im Struggling with this.I have extracted the JSON even converted XML to apply to the startlayout GPO and nothing happens. I have imported the Registry stuff and nothing happens on a local user or domain user. I have attached our windows 10 start menu xml and it just worked. Edited May 31, 2022 by swells92
mjhardisty Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Try this: https://markhardisty.wordpress.com/2022/06/07/customising-windows-11-pinned-apps-menu-for-education-users/
swells92 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Sorry forgot to update this post. So basically i have it working locally with most of the office apps using the registry quoted further up the post. BUT I cant seem to get teams to appear on the menu and there is 2 App ID's for it. I have obviously tried both but nothing happens anyone else had this problem?
round2it Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 do the users have access to where you store the files?
mjhardisty Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Yes, the start binary will need to be stored where it is accessible. do the users have access to where you store the files?
