Trying to get this done today (Sunday) as it's the only time I can guarantee nobody is on the network (or in SIMS)... plus the Bursar wants to do Year-End in FMS on Monday!

Anyway, I get an error telling me it can't access a URL and I seem to remember reading somewhere it has to be changed now it's ESS.

Now I find out that it has to be automagically changed via a SOLUS update, but SOLUS won't update (saying it isn't on the correct version) even though it is...

Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this, as I'm not looking forward to going through all the hassle of finding out who I need to speak to in Capita/ESS these days.

I had this error and needed to download the latest SOLUS 3 update from KB0051228.

Introduction

If a school is using an older version of SOLUS3 (lower than 3.12.59), they will no longer be able to download or deploy updates via SOLUS.

Schools need to update to the current version (3.12.59.5), and will be required to be actioned via downloadable installers.

The below outlines how to carry this out.

Instructions

For schools who are not on SOLUS 3.12.59 and are looking to update, please download the installers from the below link and install. Please run the database, service and UI installers in that order.

Thanks!

Strange thing is, it hadn't stopped SOLUS downloading any updates (latest one is a SIMS patch dated 04/04/2022)...

Anyway, bit confusing as the SOLUS database doesn't appear to have updated, it went through all the motions but tells me the database is still out of date (everything else seems to have updated OK)!

If I try to run the SOLUS update from within SOLUS it gives me an error (below) if I try to run the manual installer again, it asks me if I want to uninstall it...

EDIT: Well I thought I'd just go for it and try to start the SIMS updates and it seems to be pushing them out OK...

EDIT 2: Even more confusing is that after doing the manual install the instructions suggest running the SOLUS update from within SOLUS, however I don't seem to be able to do that...

Instructions

For schools who are not on SOLUS 3.12.59 and are looking to update, please download the installers from the below link and install. Please run the database, service and UI installers in that order.

After updating, please open SOLUS and go to Settings | SOLUS 3 | Updates and 'Get All Updates' from the last 3 months, then download and deploy the SOLUS update to allow the SOLUS 3 Agents to be updated.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow... when nobody can log in as the server/database for SIMS has been updated.

We had the same problem and it turned out the Solus server required a reboot before it would deploy the new Solus client.

When you have the update scheduled for Wednesday and you stumble across a very useful thread! We were running and older version of Solus :)

but we all had e-mails sent from ESS saying that the old URL/Solus version was EoL after November.. however how many of them went to the school admin team and never passed them on is a completely different topic :D

Exactly, that's the first I've heard of it.

I do seem to remember an email...

I also remember something about it being mentioned on here, but only in context of a URL change and to make sure that wasn't blocked by filtering/firewall.

EDIT: I've found one from almost exactly A YEAR AGO (nothing about SOLUS itself needing an update or it won't work anymore)!!!!

We hope you are well. We wanted to provide with some important information relating to an issue with SOLUS3.

What is the current situation?

As ESS continue to progress through the programme of separation activities from Capita, a significant amount of work is required in the rebranding workstream to remove all references to our former owner. This is a formal requirement with a completion deadline as defined in the terms and conditions of the sale agreement.

The work involved impacts graphics in our software and documentation through to items such as web addresses and support URLs. One specific requirement is to change the service URL for our SOLUS3 platform.

• The old URL was http://s3dl.capitasolus.co.uk

• The new URL is http://s3dl.ess-solus.co.uk

What is the impact for users of SOLUS3?

The downloading of patches and updates via SOLUS3 may fail if the new URL is not approved for access via internet filtering systems. We are therefore recommending that customers add the new URL http://s3dl.ess-solus.co.uk to their whitelist.

Once this has been added, downloads from SOLUS3 will continue to be processed as expected.

Please accept our apologies for implementing this change to SOLUS3 with very little prior notification. We are reviewing our internal processes to ensure this does not happen in future.
