Apart from his appealing stories, his distinctive illustrations told stories of their own. ‘I Hate My Teddy Bear’ is my favourite book of all time. Every time I look at it, I see something I’d never noticed before. Along with ‘The Bible’ and ‘The Complete Works of Shakespeare’, it would be the book I would choose on Desert Island Discs.
