It looks like I will need to go into one of the Secondary schools in our MAT and help support them with their SIMS system. This is due to staff loss/ability/knowledge of current staff. Im trying to come up with a bulletpoint list of things to check as a starter and Im just looking for any suggestions on the top things to check.

That's a very loaded question. The best overall question to ask unfortunately is "Do they really like SIMS? Find out how best to get rid of it." That's sort of meant in jest, but in the current climate it might be the best possible time to look at moving them away and an ideal opportunity to do so.

However:

Updates - is it updated and patched?

Is it on a supported operating system and SQL server version?

Are backups working and tested?

Data - is the data accurate? Database diagnostics should be able to help with much of that.

Not quite a check list but here is a list from a housekeeping handbook we have of things that we recommend our schools do on a regular basis

Hi,

I was looking at your checklist, thanks for sharing. Do you have this as part of a larger network housekeeping guide? Im trying to put together a similar document and just looking things I may have missed
