Hi

We're moving to Bromcom and in the test/training phase, with go live in April. I would ask this of Bromcom, but as we're not yet live we haven't been given access to support/roadmap.

The curriculum assignment in Bromcom, from what I've seen (and have been through the training - although the trainer was by far the weakest we've had) seems ham fisted - in most areas - there doesn't appear to be what you might call "scheme enforcement".

Want to swap a student's group? It defaults to showing you every group in the school (I appreciate you can search to filter - and you may want to "go rogue" with allocating, but it's the exception rather than the norm).

Put a student in a band? You can assign to blocks in a nice® way, but only if those blocks contain a single subject (rarely the case with KS3 core curriculum, and also for some KS4 for us - eg PSRE paired with Science) OR are an option/carousel block - again where there's only a single subject in each class (some of our carousels are 2 subjects - eg one type of DT and one type of performing art).

I appreciate there is the option to export to an excel file and reimport, as SIMS, but this doesn't fix any of the issues - I have to select the groups (and in KS3 this is probably 10 groups for each band) and assign to each individually, making sure none are missed.

I've tried reimporting our Nova file (rather than the transfer copy) but no change. Similarly with recreating a reasonable portion of our timetable in e-timetable and imported to our test to see if that includes something our Nova file doesn't that may fix things - still nothing.

The last thing I can think of to try is to name each class - that would usually be "7x1/Ar, 7x1/Co" to just "7x1" - but then teachers who (eg) teach PSRE and another subject will have no clue which it is.

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction? Is it something in the setup I've not seen in the manuals/video guides? Is it just me and I've got too used to SIMS?

Thank you in advance

Hi there

Firstly, welcome to Bromcom.

So the Curriculum Assignment/Bulk Group Assignment is one method for assigning/reassigning Students to Classes. This process is recommended more for Secondaries where Bands are used, there is also a Class Assignment feature which is better for making smaller changes for Students.

Regarding your NOVA T Timetable Import, it may be that your Timetable Project is including AM/PM or Lunch and is therefore not aligning as it should in Bromcom. This is something we would ideally need to assess in a session with yourself so that we can see exactly what is happening.

Can you please DM with your School Details so that we can discuss booking a Session for you.

Kind regards,

Bromcom Support
