Start Menu Layout - Window 10 21H2

Hi,

 

Does anybody know what might be causing this annoying little issue...I'm updating our image files and installed Windows 10 21H2 along with some new software, I've created a new start screen layout and I've exported to XML using the export-startlayout command.

 

I've setup a group policy to apply the start menu users which is fine, but when the menu is applied its presented in a different style to how it was exported and I'm not sure why. I've previously done this on an older build using the same width start menu and it's worked fine.

I've tried exporting the XML in different formats - using the orignal syntax and the newer -UseDesktopApplicationID switch but it makes no difference.

I think the important bits for the width from the XML are this... but I believe this is correct for the layout I'm trying to achieve...

Try changing the LayoutOptions line to:

[mattpant]

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to make a difference...

 

I've since found this - so I'm guessing this is why, but don't understand why they've made the change and why it allows you to drag out the start menu manually when creating the layout. - The version we have it working on is pre- 1903 as referenced in the article!

 

Beginning with Windows 10, version 1903:

 

The two column layout is deprecated (medium layout).

The option of four medium tiles (8-cell-wide) per row is deprecated.

The two OEM groups are consolidated into a single group.

Note: These changes apply to new (or clean install) devices only. Devices that upgrade to Windows 10, version 1903, will not experience a change to their existing Start layout. New accounts created on a device that has been upgraded to 1903 will see the new Start layout, as well as devices that do a push button reset after the upgrade.

Heres mine that i did for 1909 , still works in 21H1 ( dont have any 21h2)
