Can Papercut detect how much toner a job uses?

Morning all,

I have some photography students who think it's perfectly acceptable to print A3 pages of half an eyeball or other such nonsense with a solid black background. I wouldn't mind if it were final coursework but seems they fancy making an edit, printing it and then printing again.

We have credits set up and do not want to use teacher release options so wondering if there is a fancy script out there that could block a job if say 75% was one solid colour?

Sorry but I don't think the colour detect feature is what you're after. It's just reporting whether the page has any colour on it or not, not the percentage coverage. Your best bet would be something like the Print Archive and then analyse the resulting images for coverage. The only problem is that this process isn't going to be fast so is unlikely to work real time enough to block a job.

It may sound odd but does it actually matter? Unless you have an inkjet so you're paying for the ink used, if it's a laser printer then you're just paying for a click charge which doesn't care about how much toner is on the page.
