Share Outlook Calendar

At one of the Primarys that i look after, the admin network, where the hardware is maintained by LEA but software by me. The Heads PA has her outlook calendar set up with all the heads appointments and syncs them onto the heads pda. They now want the calendar availble on the heads laptop. They are both on a domain but everything is per machine os pst is on local machine not server.

 

When i have tried before them to share the calendar to the heads laptop it just says it cant find it. Is there anysoftware that i can use to sychronise the calendars on both machines?

The obvious starting place is to move the .pst for the head's outlook. We keep these on the server anyway so they are backed up, but in the user's home drive. Obviously, the pst needs to be in a shared area for what you want to do.

 

BUT I do not think it is possible to share an ordinary Outlook calendar in this way. I believe you need Exchange to do it. This is what Outlook's help says:

I cant move the pst onto the server as county dont allow me access to it! There are lots of bits of software that i have seen on google but i was wondering if anybody has used any before.

So you have no shared data areas? Does everyone have their home drives on local machines not on the server?

There are shared data areas but they dont really use them as there are only 3 people on that domain. Yep they all store all their data on the local machines!

So users are responsible for backing up their own data... including the HT and disaster recovery planning has to be non-existent

Surely West Sussex can't be so restrictive to all their schools, it wouldn't work.

 

Do you only have a server for SIMS? I remember from my last school that EIS (KCC) were very precious about the server we had SIMS on which made it very difficult for the admin staff.

You could set up a Google calendar and use Google Calendar Sync on both the Head's and the PA's machines to synchronise the data.

I have a simelar setup at the minute which works very well.

Oh, but they are! If you do anything to it, and then it breaks, they won't touch it again!

 

The situation in most West Sussex Primary schools is that the 'admin' server basically exists for SIMS and nothing else, and they are fairly 'precious' about it.
