ITLuke Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Hi all This software is such a pain, no matter what we do the software gets stuck in an update loop. We had to reopen the software 20 times before one exam just to get the software working.... We have white listed the URLs (as they always have been) and redeployed via SCCM PCs are on Windows 10 20H2. Has anyone else had this many problems with the software and potentially fixed it? Thanks!

The only time I’ve seen it loop is when the user doesn’t have write permissions to the folder it uses to download/run the update patch from I can’t remember which one it was but if you temporarily give the user access to the whole folder does it update fine? chazzy2501 Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 (edited) This happened to me I was using an old shortcut, manually install it on a workstation and copy the new looking shortcut to where ever you need it. (cyan wjec not the white orange secure client logo) The shortcut had a slightly different directory although the old one still worked but kept saying it needed an update and had to be restarted?! ITLuke Posted January 18, 2022 Author Posted January 18, 2022 Hi Steve Thanks for replying, that doesn't work either. Still stuck in the boot loop saying 'Application must be restarted for the updates to take effect' Tried running the software as admin as well Luke
siuko Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Check which version it is on as it needs to go through each update in turn rather than jumping to the newest As long as the version number is going up you are going in the right direction We normally get the latest secure client from the website and then update from there as its normally closer to the latest version 1
ITLuke Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 Thanks everyone for your replies I found out from surpass that if the clients gets more than 2 updates behind, you will forever be stuck in a update boot loop. You then have to uninstall the software and reinstall the newest version from Surpass to fix it This happens in all the versions of the surpass client Hopefully this helps someone else Luke
chazzy2501 Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 the horror! btw we used surpass this morning.. it failed. A whole class of kids staring at the client as it said loading... and didn't progress. I'm now trying to get it to work on my misbehaving VM.
ITLuke Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 Sounds like its stuck in the boot looplike us... The only thing we could think of is to redeploy it every month via SCCM just in case there has been any updates on the client
