StephenPink Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Hey all, Hoping someone on here has some advice, as I'm not too sure where to start. What do you all do for Media Editing/Music Editing suites in terms of workflow? - File sizes are huge, and likely to grow as 4K content increases - Local storage is not practical, due to being shared devices (and then would need backing up) - Current network storage is far too slow - Cloud storage would take too long to sync, again due to being shared devices and students moving around I'm assuming there are bespoke solutions for this sort of thing, but would be great if someone has some ideas/companies to contact - even if it's what not to do/who to avoid! Media are open to PC or Mac, Music are Mac only - so ideally something that would work for both, but not the end of the world if not. Cheers, Stephen
psydii Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 We have seating plans - student always use the same computer. Projects are copied locally and then copied back to network/cloud storage. Teachers hate it and they usually try to get the kids to work in network folders or in OneDrive sync'd folders, with limited success https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203954 https://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=logic+pro+bundle+onedrive&d=4657454231455100&mkt=en-GB&setlang=en-GB&w=5z6F1AjKfp5F92Rby00vVXtWV8U4TJtm http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/221652-premiere-pro-onedrive-home-folder-loading-importerquicktime-prm.html 1
dhicks Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 What do you all do for Media Editing/Music Editing suites in terms of workflow? You might want to try WeVideo: https://www.wevideo.com/ Web-based, so you are going to need a reasonably good internet connection, but it is designed to be web-based from the start and should handle bandwidth sensibly. You can upload video footage from local devices / media, or (if I remember correctly) you can record directly onto an editing timeline from a webcam or USB-connected camera.

Sorry should've specified - Media are using Adobe Premiere Pro/After Effects (latest versions), Music are using Logic Pro, Native Instruments, Sibelius (latest versions). I have been tempted by the OneDrive Files-On-Demand, but have concerns over if they don't finish syncing before logging off. Additionally, the number of students and movement of them between machines depending on lesson times etc makes the local caching less practical. Thanks, Stephen
