Tech13 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Good afternoon all, I have a question - our computer science department are wanting to purchase VR Headsets, we have looked at the oculus headsets although the issue we come up against is that we can't connect them to the WiFi without cercumventing our filter. We need to be able to install a Smoothwall Certificate on these devices and authenticate. Does anyone have any reccomednations? Thank you!
joe21 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Depending on what you are trying to achieve you could look at ClassVR headsets. We have a set of 32 and we've had to install a Netsweeper certificate through their portal, but it's simple to do.
chazzy2501 Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 I have a quest 2 and it is an awesome bit of kit for £300... maybe set them up on a guest wifi first... What do they want it to do?
slugshead Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Are you looking at basic standalone VR headsets or one more suited for real VR? We've got a bunch of HTC vives dotted around connected to some gaming comps (decent gpu and i7). They're just peripherals. The one in our main IT Suite is always plugged in ready to rock, quite normal to see students at lunchtime playing beat saber and superhotVR
SYTech Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Thanks for everyones comments so far, our two key requirments are: They will work standalone on the WiFi with a Certificate They can demo Computer Science - so for example taking apart a PC etc etc (Request from Head of Computer Science)
joe21 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Yeah, ClassVr are an immersive experience and not interactive so probably not what you are looking for although I know they have just released a new version that comes with controllers.
chazzy2501 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 you can put a quest into developer mode and install apk's but I don't know how this might help you.
