Good morning,

I'm having an issue trying to disable the "Use Auto-Complete" feature in Outlook (File > Options > Mail > Under Send). Trying to set via REGEDIT\GPO using the various suggestions from the following websites doesn't appear to work for our version of Outlook.

RE: Disable Auto-Complete in Outlook 365 - Microsoft Q&A

Office 365 Domain Disable AutoComplete Option - Microsoft Tech Community

[sOLVED] Disabling auto suggestions in Office 365 - Spiceworks

We're running the following versions of Windows\Outlook.

  • Microsoft Outlook for Mircosoft 365 MSO (16.0.12901.20366) 64-bit
  • Microsoft Windows version 10.0.19042.746

Anyone got any suggestions please?

Thanks

Ben

Did anyone ever find a solution for this? As new ICO guidance has come out recommending disabling of autocomplete for email addresses, so this is something I'm looking into whether we can implement.

(See https://www.theregister.com/2023/12/15/to_bcc_or_not_bcc/ for the news story)

i mean, why dont we just go back to a phone directory but for emails!

i wonder if you could set to/cc threshholds and convert to bcc to stop bulk accidents, anything internal going to large groups should be a mailing list in most cases

So next calendar year we're going to start using a platform called Zivver which addresses the problems like using CC instead of BCC, sending to people you don't normally send to, etc etc etc, but as mentioned I just saw a news article saying ICO are recommending disabling address autocomplete.

E-mails going awry (particularly to students instead of staff etc) has been heavily mitigated by implementing custom address books and custom GALs. No student names auto-fill now, staff will only be auto-filled by other staff. If they want to e-mail a student then they need to go out of their way to do it by using the address book. It has also stopped staff accidentally e-mailing other staff across the Trust, as they can only see colleagues within their own school. Again, if they want to contact a colleague at another school they need to use the appropriate address book. Staff are free to use the Contacts feature of Outlook to set up their own contacts or frequently-used users.

Equally, students cannot see any students outside of their own school and don't get auto-filled by other students or staff in the Trust.

It was a bind to set up but the amount of human error has dropped significantly to the point where I can't remember the last time it happened, I set it all up over a year ago due to new schools joining the Trust.
