techie17 Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Hi Is anyone else having issues downloading word attachments from 365 webmail today? Pdfs and images seem to be fine, just not word or excel. It just comes up with the error "Word experianced and error trying to open the file, which downloads it to the downloads folder. Also printing from word and excel comes up with the error "Word cant print due to a problem with the printer setup" or "Your file could not be printed due to an error on FollowMe". It happens on all printers but again, powerpoint and PDFs are fine. Thanks
ctstone Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Hi Techie, Yes, we're also having this issue. I cant seem to find a fix to it. Also only effecting Word and Excel here too. Potential Microsoft bug? Charlie
WannabrewUK Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 We seem to be having a similar issue. It seems to work for us if we turn off protected view, but until I know the cause I'm reluctant to do this. Thanks David
JSpaced Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Same issue here. The last update for Microsoft 365 was earlier in the month. We're glad it's not just us because we were scratching our heads trying to work out what's changed. Unfortunately turning off Protected View has no impact on the Printing problem. Web version of Office 365 works fine. It's not even affecting EVERY user. Anyone had any success diagnosing? Edited December 1, 2021 by JSpaced
ctstone Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I've done complete Windows updates on 1 machine so far which seems to of resolved the issue I'll keep you posted, does someone else want to try this too?

JSpaced Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Now I'm confused. You've had the issue on MS Office 2016? We've had the problem on MS Office 365. Thanks for the info though, that's interesting... 10 Pro Education 10.0.19042

JSpaced Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Ive just ran windows update (windows 10 not office updates) on one computer and it now works. Trying on a second. Again can I get build number, CU version? We've done the same thing and not had any success. We're using: Windows 10 - Version 20H2, 19042.1348 Office 365 Version: 2110 Build: 14527.20276 Bizarrely, without any changes being made, my NM's station went from not working to working over about an hour, while mine remains stubbornly not working. bald_pig Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 This isn't the defender issue posted elsewhere on here is it?

ctstone Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 2 more machines here have been fixed by Windows update. Interestingly, I also get this in Windows Defender

techie17 Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 defo seems to be windows defender. just ran the manual update for defender and that solved the issue.
JSpaced Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 So yeah, by forcing a Windows Update, you'll ALSO update your Defender Definitions, so that'll do it. Thanks guys. J
techie17 Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Slightly related, we use SCCM (Endpoint Config Manager) to deploy the defender updates and i cant remember for the life of me how to force clients to check for an update. Does anyone know how to do this?
JSpaced Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) Slightly related, we use SCCM (Endpoint Config Manager) to deploy the defender updates and i cant remember for the life of me how to force clients to check for an update. Does anyone know how to do this? Our process (still in er... process) is: SCCM -> Software Updates -> Software Update Groups -> Synchronise Software Updates. After that, go to Automatic Deployment Rules, right-click Windows Defender Definition Updates and Run Now. Still waiting, but our SCCM do be like that sometimes. Once again, Edugeek to the rescue. I hadn't even thought of reviewing Windows Defender, such a tenuous link, but brilliant work guys. Edited December 1, 2021 by JSpaced Typo
ctstone Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Hi All, I can confirm that a definition update resolves the issue, I have manually downloaded it and pushed it out via SCCM to the entire network for the fastest possible results. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/defenderupdates Downloading the relevant version from the above link and running is how to force it if Windows Update doesn't pick it up / you want to try it my way. When you run it, it'll look like nothing has happened. Give it 5 mins and then restart it and It shall work Charlie
