thom Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I have got a spare server lying around and want to use it for a few different apps. They all require MSDE to run. Does this mean they will have to be on a seperate server or can you have more than one instance on the same machine?
RobC Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 You can have more than one instance of MSDE running on the same server. It uses Instances in the same way that the full SQL Server does, but it doesn't allow you to actually involve yourself with the database at all. Hope that helps... Rob.
ajbritton Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 ...but it doesn't allow you to actually involve yourself with the database at all. The latest version of MSDE, now called Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition, has a management console available for download. This may or may not work with older versions of MSDE.
Norphy Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I can confirm it does, I've used it to browse our SIMS and EPO databases.
