Badaz52 Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Hi, We have been asked by our PE department to see if we can get wireless access to the sports field. I thought about putting an AP on the outside of our sports hall with the field being around 215m away, there are no buildings in between where the AP would be, and the field just a few trees. Ruckus does an outdoor ap Zoneflex T310 but they don't publish range and based on the fact that these units are £1000 each I don't want to buy one to find out that it won't reach. Has anyone done anything similar?
milesla Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Hi, we have installed 5 APs outside and put them inside IP55 (I think) boxes. Works a charm and costs considerably less. If any APs are attached to the outside wall of a building and connect directly into you network be sure to install lightening arrestors onto a earth source. APs need to sit between 3-4 meters up for optimimum signal coverage. 1
Net-Ctrl Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Hello - just to add that the T310 would be significantly less than £1k - you probably be looking around half that through an EDU Ruckus reseller. If you speak with your partner they should be able to review Google Maps images and descriptions of the area to give you an idea on whether this would work in possible install locations - if not send a Demo AP out for testing. The challenge right now is going to be securing stock if it is an urgent project - also will depend on your set-up to ensure it will work with the rest of your deployment. If you let me know FW version I can confirm this for you
slugshead Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 We've got a bunch of T610 Ruckus points covering outdoor areas. Solid bit of kit. Most impressive one is on our "jousting field", with line of sight 150m-200m range isn't a problem. We use that area for outdoor summer events, small festivals etc. Single T610 covering the area works fine Other areas we cover with the same APs, outdoor teaching spaces, general areas outdoor used for weddings and events in marquees, muster points etc
