Civica - Oh how I hate them!

We're moving to LGfL/Trustnet over Half-Term and are required to change our IP ranges to fit into their infrastructure. OK, I thought - what about the cashless catering?

 

We'd upgraded (for want of a better word) to Civica over the summer - shiny new server VM and new tills running W10. Not a problem I thought, I can change the static IP of the server and Civica can tell me how to access the tills and change their IPs too. Might be some other bits and pieces to do, but they can email me the procedure.

Well, no actually - they will need to send an engineer out. That'll be £1050 please while we have you over a barrel.

I'm getting sick of large organizations squeezing every possible penny out of the Education sector. What do we pay support & maintenance for if not for these sorts of requests?

Anyone else with some good extortion stories to tell? Doesn't have to be Civica - lots of candidates out there!

Plug a keyboard in and you should be able to change it yourself. I doubt Civica have improved security since they upgraded our tills a few years ago.

We used to have our cloud backup via entrust (Link2ICT) for 90gb of storage we were paying in the region of £1,000 a year

they wanted to charge us for resetting up the MIS link because they couldn't read pupil medical records. Sent them the logs where they are not even asking for them.

 

Civica are up there with Parentpay.
