tangotech Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Hi all, Can anyone shed some light on how to get the school name to show as the caller ID display for outgoing calls? At the moment all our outgoing calls are coming from our name number and it would be nice to be able to display this as the school name. Cheers!
mavhc Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Step 1 is to talk to your SIP provider, by default they usually override what you set, because you can put any number/name you want.
MatthewL Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 You cannot get a phone to show a name on caller ID it will show a number. What I think you are meaning is that you want all outgoing call to present with the school number regardless of which phone is used? You can specify this on the extension in question or if you are using SIP trunks and you can specify it there too. Some mobiles will show a name if using smart numbers where it will search the internet and match it that way but what I think you are wanting is that regardless of which phone is used they all show say 01234 567890 rather than different ones.
mavhc Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 CNAM is the caller name feature, but it works completely differently to CLID, in that it's a database the receiving phone network uses, and it's not that supported in uk "CNAM is an SS7 service that displays a 15 character ASCII string on a phone display" If anyone actually made SIP calls, you can send the name via that. And as Matthew pointed out, smartphones can just google the phone number automatically as soon as the call comes in
