Hyper-V... moving virtual machines (error).

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Having created a few virtual machines on my tech pc to test new CUs for the printing issues and quickly filling up my hard drive...

I decided to move them off to a spare disk, but each one is finishing with an error, basically saying it has failed as it 'can't find the file specified'.

I thought I would post now as I'm only half way through moving them and haven't tested one out, but is it worth carrying on or is this something that is a known issue or a false error and it will be ok?

It seems like all the .vhxd files are there within the folder structure of the drive I am moving them to...

I don't think so, I had removed the 'DVD' drive in each instance after the initial install of Windows.

I merged all the checkpoints, made sure they were all shutdown etc...

They do appear to be pointing to the new location in the settings and I've only got one more to do now, so I guess we'll see.

OK, so I've moved them again to another disk (this time opening Hyper-V manager as an administrator - which might have been the problem in the first place - although it didn't tell me the first time, it complained the second time).

I did a full move all storage and associated files ticked, but I still have folders and files in the default locations... are these ok to delete now?
