JamF School - Help Please

Hi All

 

I'm trying to set up iPads for use in a classroom to be shared, so there is a requirement that users shouldn't have to sign in to a device.

 

I have taken the following steps to get my devices from my Apple school account and into my Jamf environment;

 

1. Release device

2. Connect device to Apple Configurator and prepare, adding to Apple Configurator MDM in Apple School.

3. Change device management in Apple School, moving device into Jamf MDM.

 

All works fine until I get to Jamf management and the device adopts the Apple ID from my Apple School account and requires sign in on the device. How do I get round this? Is there a setting I've missed or possibly set incorrectly?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Apple's Shared iPad mode (not student shared iPad) will always ask for a passcode....?

 

Why would you release devices from Apple School Manager to do this, there is no need to do this at all?

As far as I can see, the process should simply be - change MDM assignment in Apple School, factory reset iPad to get new ADP profile and enroll in Jamf, assign device to group/profile in Jamf School and let it download apps/settings.

 

I'm not sure where releasing it or Apple IDs come in? Are any apps you've deployed bought through VPP (ie. not bought on an Apple ID directly)?

The apple ID might be coming from the prepare in Apple Configurator. It will ask you for a username and password but you don't need to fill this in. If you fill this in, then it assigns this iPad to you in your MDM.

 

As others have said, there is no need to release devices if they are already in Apple School Manager. You only really need to use Apple Configurator if you want to setup iPads in bulk.
